Heart Paint Event: Rainbow Cat

Paint Night at Kestrel Cafe Rainbow Cat Edition Saturday, February 7 5:00–7:00 PM $20 per person | 30 spots available Join us for a cozy, guided paint night where we will be creating a bright, joyful rainbow cat on a heart-shaped canvas. You are welcome to follow along step by step, or use the design as a jumping-off point and paint whatever sparks your fancy. This event is beginner-friendly and process-focused. There is no pressure to be perfect and no expectation to paint it “right.” The canvas is a small heart shape, about 5.9 inches tall, making it easy to complete in one sitting and take home the same night. All supplies are included. No painting experience needed. Come paint, sip something warm, and enjoy an evening of creativity and community. Watercolor Exploration with Mrs Jen

February 8th 2-4 pm 2+ Years and older, adults and children with special needs welcome. A parent or caretaker must accompany the artist for the entire duration of the event. Explore Beginner Watercolor Techniques with Mrs Jen as we go on a journey of introduction to color and design. We will be using pallets and water color paper and learning how to block out a picture, mix colors, utilizing paint brushes and opacity and texture. Mrs Jen will differentiate according to age and experience level so each artist has a great experience. Seats are Limited to 20 artists.

Introduction to Hand Sewing

A practical life skills class Ages 12+. This beginner-friendly class introduces the basics of hand sewing, with a focus on practical skills you can use to mend everyday clothing and fabric items. No prior sewing experience is required. Together, we will learn how to thread a needle, sew on a button, and repair small tears using foundational hand-sewing stitches. This is a hands-on class centered on usefulness and confidence, not perfection. Participants are encouraged to bring a torn t-shirt or fabric item they would like to mend. Practice materials will also be available. (Please note: denim is not suitable for this class.) What We’ll Cover: Threading a needle and securing thread. Running stitch. Whip stitch. Basic fabric mending. Sewing on buttons. Take-home sewing kit included.

Plush Turtle Workshop: Meet Turtle Geoff

An intermediate hand-sewing experience Geoff loves turtles. April loves Geoff. And now you can show Geoff some love too. Join us for a cozy, hands-on sewing workshop where we will bring an army of Turtle Geoffs to life. This guided, intermediate-level class focuses on hand-sewing techniques used in plush making and is designed to be supportive, joyful, and skill-building. The workshop includes an exclusive plush turtle pattern, all materials needed, and step-by-step instruction from April and Geoff. We will laugh, learn, troubleshoot together, and create something truly adorable. By the end of the night, you will take home your very own Turtle Geoff, stitched with your own hands and filled with love. What You Will Learn Participants will learn and practice essential hand-sewing skills, including: How to assembling plush pieces. Blanket stitch to finish the shell edge. Ladder stitch for clean, invisible closure. Sewing on button eyes for personality and detail These skills are transferable and useful for future plush, repair, and hand-sewing projects. This class is best suited for participants who: Are comfortable holding a needle and thread. Have some basic familiarity with hand sewing. Want to build confidence and learn new techniques in a relaxed setting. This workshop runs up to 3 hours, with plenty of time and support built in. Limited to 20 seats to ensure individual attention.

Clay Date with Mrs Jen

Clay Date with Mrs. Jen A playful clay exploration for young artists Ages 2+ Adults and children with special needs welcome A parent or caretaker must accompany the artist for the entire duration of the event. Explore hands-on creativity with clay alongside Mrs. Jen in this fun, beginner-friendly art experience. Clay Date is all about sensory play, imagination, and creative exploration. Young artists will squish, roll, shape, and build with air dry clay while learning basic techniques such as forming shapes, adding texture, and turning ideas into simple sculptures. This is an open-ended, process-focused class designed to encourage curiosity and creativity rather than a finished “perfect” project. Mrs. Jen will gently guide each artist and adapt activities based on age, ability, and comfort level to ensure everyone has a positive, engaging experience. Come ready to get a little messy, have fun, and explore what your hands can create. 20 seats available

There will be patches for sale from local artisans and we will enjoy a mix of Baltimore's finest local groups while we sew. Each ticket comes with a Kestrel Cafe Exclusive Patch.
